Happy Happy Happy

Yall, I'm the happiest I've been in a long time. My heart is just so full.

So much has happened since I last blogged! Thanksgiving came and went before I could even blink. It was so nice to be at home and have a house full of people. Lots of laughter, Duck Dynasty and football watching, and shopping. My family really is the best, however I was ready to get back into the swing of things in Austin for the last leg of the semester. Being in a packed house made me really appreciate the calmness of my apartment haha.

Some of the best parts of my trip back home:

Shrimp Damien and sweet potato ravioli with sage butter sauce at one of my favorite Italian restaurants in Houston, Damien's.

My sweet cousin Brady. He is a hoot and kept me entertained the whole week.

My mom is SO creative! She and I both share a love for Christmas decorations.

On Thanksgiving Day, UT played TCU, so I brought my little cousin Kacy to the game with me. It was so great to watch the game with some great high school friends (pictured above). It was especially fun for Kacy because it was her first UT home game. She loved it. It's beyond bittersweet that that was my very last home game as a student :(

On the last day of the break, my best friends from high school and I went to the Renaissance Festival. It was SO MUCH FUN! I was so happy to spend time with them--I've missed them so so much!

Like I said before, the break was much needed, but I was happy to be back. I missed my friends, and surprisingly, work! These past 2 weeks have been such a breeze. I am so fortunate to have such a stress-free semester this year. Everyone I know is running on 3 hours of sleep, chugging coffee like there's no tomorrow, and slaving away at endless papers, tests, and projects--and I'm just sitting around watching Netflix haha. Luckily, I've been blessed with the best group members in the world for projects this semester, so the work has almost been enjoyable. Weird. In my mind, this is how my senior year is supposed to be :)

Being an advertising major, I'm a stickler for typography. I'm obsessed with it. So the other day, I was peer-grading one of my classmate's paper in my management class when I noticed they typed the entire paper in Comic Sans font. Geez. Stop it. Be professional; we're not making a 5th grade book fair poster. So I left them this note :)

Life is just so good. Christmastime is my favorite time of the year. I mean for god's sake, I put our tree up before Thanksgiving haha. I've been watching Christmas movies, listening to Christmas music, decking the halls, and doing super festive activities:

Like making my boyfriend go ice-skating with me. Though, I didn't really think this through... it was supposed to be a cute double date, but I failed to remember I'm the worst ice-skater in the world. Luckily, Graham is a hockey player (aka pro figure skater), so he held my hand and made sure I didn't bust my ass. What a keeper. I did eventually bust my ass. I suck.

And sweater wearing. Now I just need it to stay cold in Texas and I'll be good as gold!

I'm so excited to see what December has in store. I'm really close to getting a 4.0 this semester; keep your fingers crossed! Also, my birthday is this weekend, which means a fancy dinner with the boyfriend, my best friends coming into town, and my parents brunching us Sunday! Then next week, Graham bought us tickets to see Home Alone on the big screen (I'm giddy--that's my favorite movie!!!) ANNNND I get to work the Eli Young Band concert on Thursday. Oh and did I mention I only have one final? Hallelujah.

Well I'm gonna wrap this novel of a post up.

Hope you all have days as happy as mine :)

I have seriously been slacking in the blogging department. Sometimes I forget I have this little puppy. Life has been busy lately! Thanksgiving is vastly approaching, and before you know it the holidays will be here! I've been trying my best to soak up every moment of my senior year. This semester has been filled with so many fun memories. I'm really looking forward to what 2013 has in store for me! I should have an easy-peasy school semester, I have a niece coming in January, Spring Break in March, my oldest brother is getting married in April, Kayla is due in May (wooo another baby niece or nephew!), and graduation in May. So many exciting things ahead :) Not to mention all of the fun things my friends and I will do in between.

Though all this future talk is fun, I'm sure you're just dying to know what's going on in my present. I've linked up with Jenn over at Perfectly Imperfect to do an InstaLately post. Here ya go!

So much orange leaving the stadium with our beautiful tower in the background!

Me and Kait being dumb during halftime.

Monica and I went to UCHIKO the other night. Great food, great conversations, and lots of laughing!

UT lit up the tower in honor of Darrell K Royal, who passed away Nov 7th. Not only was he an extraordinary coach, he put an irreplaceable effect of school spirit on the 40 Acres. DKR was my stepdad's hero, so this was especially sad for him.

With a new season comes a new chalkboard!

One of my dearest friends came into town last weekend, so we went to lunch at Hula Hut on the lake. It was unusually hot, so it was like we were celebrating Summer in November!

Last but not least, the face painting I got at Wurstfest. It cracked me up.

Hope you all are having a fabulous hump day! I know I am!

Post-Halloween Post

I'm genuinely sad Halloween is over! I love this holiday. I love all things creepy and costumes and candy!

I think I did a pretty good job celebrating this year. I've tried pretty much every seasonal beer out there--Samuel Adams Octoberfest being my fave. The apartment has been decorated with spiderwebs for quite a while. I've watched Hocus Pocus about 8 times. I had two kickass costumes. I consumed my body weight in pumpkin spice lattes. I carved pumpkins.  I went to a freakin' terrifying haunted house and almost peed my pants. I survived Halloween on 6th. Anddddd I watched some scary movies.

Next year's Halloween bucket list will include a hayride, a corn maze, going to a pumpkin patch, and everything else listed above.

Though I'm sad Halloween is over, I'm excited about Thanksgiving! My mom's side of the family is coming down from Tennessee, so it'll be a good ole part-ay at our house for a few days. And by part-ay, I mean a lottttt of shopping, eating, and football watching will be done. Oh boy. I'm excited to see them! And right after that is my 22nd birthday. Blegh. 22? Officially the most anticlimactic birthday EVER. The good news I don't have any final exams on it this year, so hooray for that.

Anywho, here are a few pictures from Halloween, courtesy of my iPhone! I seriously have got to get a new camera.

^ This is my personal fave. My friends and I went to an MS charity walk in Houston and we all dressed up. I was so excited to be zipper-face! I sort of felt like a celebrity haha. Tons of people kept asking to take pictures of me.

We're on the trusty ole Ebus getting downtown. Don't drink and drive, folks!

Hope you all have a festive Halloween!

Check out my post over at Love Twenty about things you should be thankful for in your early twenties. It was fun to write!

This weekend was ACL Festival in Austin. ACL weekend is a weekend everyone looks forward to every year; great music, great people, great atmosphere. This year's lineup was awesome, per usual. Aviici, Bassnectar, The Avett Brothers, The Lumineers, Jack White, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Childish Gambino, The Black Keys, Florence and the Machine, The Shins, Weezer, and SO many more!

This year was the first year I got to go and it certainly won't be the last. Plus, it was fun catching up with my childhood best friends. I hadn't seen those girls in forever! I could have for sure done without the mud, but oh well.

The Civil Wars

Two Door Cinema Club

The Lumineers (it was beyond crowded though! so sad!)

Our original seats for RHCP. We had to move because we couldn't breathe :)

Liebster Award

I feel so honored! Jo Lane over at Loving Life In The Fab Lane nominated me for the Liebster Award, which is for new bloggers who have less than 200 followers. How exciting!

The idea is that people win the award and pass it on to other Bloggers who are in the same boat. My research tells me that the rules are:
  • Each person tagged must post 11 things about themselves.
  • They must also answer the 11 questions the tagger has set for them.
  • They must create 11 more questions to ask bloggers they have decided to tag.
  • They must then choose 11 bloggers to tag with less than 200 followers.
  • These lucky bloggers must be told.
  • There are no tag backs.

Weekend Roundup

This weekend has been a little nuts. I've received a flood of news and I'm a little overwhelmed.

One thing I'm not allowed talk about just yet. Everyone knows how terrible I am at keeping secrets so this is really hard :( But trust me, it's goooooood! I am so excited about it!

Another exciting thing is that Mom and Steve officially found a piece of land to build on in TENNESSEE! This has been a bit of a grueling journey for us. They knew they wanted to retire to a place closer to family, so they initially started looking in Northern Alabama. Then South Carolina. Then East Tennessee. Thennnnn outside of Nashville, and now they finally call my mom's hometown home again. It's bizarre that they wound up there, but you know what they say.. home is where the heart is. They've searched high and low for the perfect piece of land to build a house on and I am so happy they finally found it. I think everyone is pretty excited they won't be 900 miles from them.

Which will be fun for me if I wind up getting a job in Austin after graduation. Not. But I really am truly happy for them. This is going to be such an exciting new phase of their lives.

On to a less happy note, my grandma had a stroke this weekend. Fortunately, she is doing much better and there doesn't appear to be any nerve damage. It scared me to death. My grandma is my heart and it hurts so bad to think of something happening to her. Please keep her in your prayers.

It's just been a weird weekend for my emotions. Lots of ups and downs and in betweens. I'm excited to see what this week has in store...

Survey Sunday

When I was in middle school, I LOVED doing these survey's on Xanga. Which by the way, I would highly recommend going back and reading your old Xanga. It's really embarrassing, but SO funny. I would write about the dumbest things.. "So like last night I went downstairs to get a snack, then I went back upstairs" "So tonight I think we're gonna go see White Chicks! I hope cHrIs is going! XO" "likin' nobody....".

Oh middle school.. the worst years of any girls life.

Anywho, I saw that people are doing this whole Survey Sunday thing and I got really excited. Because who doesn't like a good survey?!

1. Are you a morning or night person? Definitely a morning person. Staying up late isn't my favorite, but I suck it up on the weekends for the sake of my social life.

2. Ninjas or pirates? Pirates.

3. What was your favorite childhood television program? Where do I start? I've always loved TV. Rugrats was my #1. Hey Arnold, All That, The Amanda Show, Recess, Lizzie McGuire, 7th Heaven.

4. Any food dislikes? Not the biggest fan of seafood

5. If you could have any superpower, what would it be? To travel in time. I wouldn't change anything, there are just certain things I'd like to relive or get a glimpse of.

6. What is usually your first though when you wake up? What time is it? Then I check my texts or laugh about what I dreamt about. I have weird dreams.

7. What is your favorite color? Turquoise

8. Do you believe in ghosts? YES

9. Have any bad habits? I have a really bad habit of not proof-reading things before I write them. It's becoming an issue

10. Biggest pet peeve? WHEN PEOPLE ARE LATE FOR THINGS. If I can get there on time, so can you! Also, I hate when people smack their food. Ew.

11. Any celebrity crushes? Zac Efron and Jef Holm from The Bachelorette

12. Clean or messy person? It depends on how busy I am to tell you the truth. Right now, my bathroom could go for a good cleaning and I have a lot of clothes that need to be hung up. I hate being messy. It makes me anxious. I'm borderline OCD on things being organized.

13. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live? Austin or Nashville.

14. Name 1 thing you miss about being a kid. No responsibilities.

15. Name 1 thing you love about being an adult. I get to do whatever I want and people trust that I am making good decisions.

16. Any regrets? Nah. Well.. I kind of wish I would slow down and stop to smell the roses every now and then.

17. What was one of your favorite foods as a kid? Hot dogs

18. What would be your dream job? I wanna work at a country record label

19. What would your last supper be? First, I'd start with chips and queso from El Azteca in Portland. They have white queso and it's my favoooorite. Next, I'd get a caprese salad from Damien's in Houston. Then I'd have a Goodnight burger from Hopdoddy in Austin. Lastly, I'd get a piece of tres leches cake from Churrascos in Houston. Mmmm. I think I'd get diabetes after that meal though.

20. Who was the best looking teacher you ever had? My public speaking professor freshman year. He was a grad school student, a total hottie, but a total douche. I couldn't stand him.

21. What’s the strangest talent you have? I'm double-jointed in my fingers. Anddddd I pride myself on being able to fix anything; I'm a little handyman.

22. Which shoe do you put on first? I've never paid attention.

23. Do you parallel park or drive around the block? Whichever's closest. I've become a pro at parallel parking in Austin.

24. Do you have any strange phobias? I am absolutely terrified of the Chuckie doll.

25. Name 1 thing not many people know about you. Eh, I'm pretty much an open book. Here's a secret: my hair isn't actually blonde!

Happy Sunday, yall :) Mine will be spent doing homework! Wooo

Fact is..

Things in my life are starting to slow down. I like it. I'm still busy, but not stressed, which is just how I like my life. School is enjoyable (for the most part), work is good, and life is just plain fun. Sometimes I just sit down and think "wow things are so good right now". It's nice.

Sometimes it's hard when you get caught up in the motions and forget to acknowledge the good times. So stop what you're doing right now and think of 5 things that make you happy.

I'll never forget a lesson I learned in bible study when I was in high school.. Our youth pastor had one of my friends stand next to a stool, then had another one of my friends try to pick her up and put her on the stool. It was hard. Next, he had one of the girls stand on the stool and had the other one try to pull her down. It was easy. The point was that it's so much easier being brought down than lifted up. It's hard being an optimist. It's easy to think of all things going wrong.

Thinking positive is something I constantly struggle with, but right now life is so good and acknowledging it needs to be a main focus of mine.

Anywho, on to other pressing matters. One of my favorite blogs, The Chiffon Diary is doing a link party called "Fact is.." and I thought it would be fun to join in!

Fact is: I'm seriously contemplating doing the whole ombre thing to my hair. Mainly because my hair is growing at lightening speed and I just can't afford to take my butt to the salon every 5 weeks to have my roots fixed. So this is an excuse to let my roots show in all of their glory. I don't want to get carried away with it though--it needs to be subtle. We all know I don't like change when it comes to my hair. I cried when Kayla cut 6 inches off and I cried when I dyed it brown last year. This is a color I'm leaning toward:

Fact: I cannot contain my excitement on having a niece!!!! Ben and Leah had their gender reveal party the weekend before last. Obviously, I couldn't be there, so my brother Patrick FaceTimed me so I could see the whole thing. I definitely cried happy tears when we found out it was a girl :) I am beyond excited to spoil her rotten. Plus, I have the best aunts in the whole wide world who I am very close with, so I can't wait to share that special relationship with this little babe.

Fact: I am absolutely starving right now, but I don't wanna eat until I finish this post.

Fact: I want to be more proactive at my internship, but I don't really know how to broach the topic because there are 3 other interns and we all share projects, so it would be hard for me to do stuff on the side.

Fact: Tina Fey is the funniest person on TV. I'm really into 30 Rock right now.

Fact: I've been eating terribly lately. I'm ok with it though. I need extra weight to keep me warm in the winter.

Fact: My roommate doesn't understand our walls are paper thin. I can't un-hear some of things I've heard recently. Barf.

Fact: I don't really care about the upcoming election. I hate politics. And I'm not registered to vote. Sue me?

Fact: I've been letting someone get under my skin lately that I should've ditched a long time ago. Sometimes, no matter how hard you try, you just can't let people go.

And that's all folks. Have a fabulous Hump Day!

Transitioning Into Fall

As the temperature continues to drop, here's what you shouldn't do:

You should never wear leggings under your Norts (Nike + shorts, get it?). EVER. You'll look dumb. Pick one or the other. Or another option would be some yoga pants, a pair of jeans, or a pullover to keep you warmer as fall approaches.

So here in Austin, we've been experiencing a "cold front". And by cold front, I mean the low has been in the 70s. People are going freaking nuts. I saw a girl riding a bike the other day wearing jeans and a sweatshirt.. my guess is she got so excited about the drop in temperature that she forgot about the highs still being in the 90s midday. Hello, check the weather app on your phone. It's not that hard.

With this cold front, I've already starting seeing an emergence of the leggings + Norts combo. It's burning my eyes.

While I try my best not to commit fashion faux pas, I do slip up every now and then when I'm feeling lazy or running late. I won't be a hypocrite about it, but these slip ups should never match up to sheer tackiness. So please, for the love of God, stop wearing this outfit.

And while I'm on this topic, if you're going to wear leggings as pants, make sure they're not see-through. I don't need to know what color your thong is.

Life Lately + Things I'm Loving

Woooooweee I'm really sucking in the blogging department. I am just so. dang. busy. Between school and work and having a social life, I am swamped.

Good news folks. I'm giving myself a break. I've been toying with the idea of quitting one of my internships a lot here lately. I didn't really like the work I was doing at internship #1 (disclaimer: I do realize it's intern work. It is going to suck. I get it. Buttt.. my other internships never sucked this bad.) The people in the office weren't very friendly, I had to sit on a barstool, AND I never really felt like a valuable member of the team. Plus a girl has to find time to eat, sleep, and do her homework! Going to school fulltime + 2 jobs leaves very little wiggle room for free time. So I finally bit the bullet and quit.

I am in love with my internship at Triple 8 (internship #2) and now I feel like I can put my full focus into it and school. Plus it's my senior year! I need to stop and smell the roses. I had to do what was best for me. I tried to be a badass and have these two internships at once to plump up my resume, but it just wasn't going to work out for me. From that, I've learned a few things:

1. Cut things out that weigh you down. If it makes you unhappy, drop it. Nothing is worth making you miserable if you can easily fix it.
2. I don't like having no room for free time. Sometimes I just need to unwind and doing something mindless, like watching Keeping Up With The Kardashians, for a little bit before working or doing homework. Being so scheduled that I don't have time to sit down and eat is ridiculous. Cut that crap out while you still can.
3. This is my SENIOR YEAR. I still can't get over it. In 8 months, I'll be forced into adulthood. Let's worry about that when I get there. For now, I will enjoy my adolescence.. at least what's left of it.

So anywho, that's where I am now. Classes are going swell. Work is phenom. Football season is in full swing. I'm just lovin' life :)

With that being said, I wanted to share a few things I'm just lovvvving here lately:

This Old Navy Sweater: They're currently out of the black and white polka dot online, but I snagged this one a few weeks ago in-store. Polka dots are huge this fall and I have been dying to wear this ever since I bought it! I wore it to work today, later to class, then to dinner tonight (with a top knot and neon shorts) and I have never gotten more compliments on an outfit before!

I've been loving gold this fall, and when one of my favorite blogs, For Chic Sake, posted this glittery quatrefoil iPhone background, I about died. Love. Download it now and swoon over your new wallpaper.

Love this quote. Sometimes it's hard to remember this.

When people write songs for me.

When I get praised in class for sharing my opinion/thoughts.

When people respond quickly to texts.

30 Rock. Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, and Tracy Morgan are a magical mix.

Laughing outloud when I'm by myself. That's when something's really funny.

Being organized.

My job.

When people are sweet for no reason. Like my friends. And the barista at Starbucks. And the random girl next to me in class today.

Freshly washed sheets.

Having energy! I think I'm loving this the most. For the past few months, I have been a zombie. I'm beyond over it.

Welllll.. this blog post took a turn for the long-ness. What? I don't know. I'm tired. Love you all :) XO

Friday, September 7, 2012

What a week this has been. It's been my first full week back at school and work and it's not been an easy transition from summer :( If this is what adulthood feels like, I'm not ready for it one bit! Monday's and Wednesday's, I have class then have to rush to internship #1 then rush from work back to class. 8:30am-7pm. It kills me. Then Tuesday's and Thursday's I have internship #2 then class. I feel like I'm constantly running.

And all this running made me miss the last InstaFriday. So lucky you, you get 2 weeks worth of Instagram pictures! Hip hip hooray!

Without further ado (in chronological order)...

My city. It's beautifuuuuul.

The weekend before last, some friends and I made a day trip to Jacob's Well in Wimberly. It was super cool and super cold. Everything is about waist deep except for this 8ft circle, which is about 40 feet. My friend Thomas brought his GoPro and made this sweet video ( if you wanna see what it looks like 20 feet down! I didn't have the balls to get my hair wet, much less dive.

I suck. And am not naked if you were wondering.

Found this hilarious picture of my mom and I on my phone from back in July. We went out to eat at Damien's in Houston and had a bitttt too much wine with dinner. Naturally, after dinner we wanted a fun family photo featured our pup. Obviously, Stormy (the pup) was terrified for her life.

The office at internship #2 is much like a zoo. There's Ace, the precious/giant chocolate lab, and Zombie, the devil cat. I was minding my own business, when Zombie attacked the back of my chair and got stuck.

Gameday calls for my favorite boots ever. Hook em.

My last first home game! Bittersweet.

Last Sunday, we went to the Cathedral of Junk. This guy in South Austin turned into backyard into a huge pile of junk/work of art.

It reminded me so much of that scene from Harriet the Spy where Harriet's nanny takes them to that windchime garden, but so much better! See video below for some nostalgia:

One of my fave Coldplay songs snuck into the Cathedral of Junk. That place was such a sight. I wanna go back again just to look at what I missed the first time.

Mandy and I have the stupidest/best obsession with celebrities, especially if they're reality stars. We feel like we're friends with them or something.

Last, and certainly not least, Throwback Thursday. I adore this picture of my oldest brother and I. We're 8 years apart, and we were never really close growing up. Now that we're older and have more in common, we're really close. There were times when I was little that he was so mean to me or would have nothing to do with me. I'm so glad that's changed now. Also, another exciting thing about Patrick is that he's engaged! I'm so happy for him and Shannon!

So that's my week. Well sorta. I fit some other stuff in. Like homework. And eating. And babysitting. And loving internship #2. I get to do work that I LOVE.

It's so exciting to be excited about work. I know 100% in my heart that I want to work in the music industry when I grow up (which is scary, because I'll be a grown up in about 8 months!) and that's what this internship is all about!
