This has been on the chalkboard in my kitchen for quite some time now. And while I stand by that quote, I want to change it up a bit.

Time to scour Pinterest for a fun quote! In the meantime, can someone plllllllease buy me these markers from Chalk Ink? They seem so much more fun than regular chalk!

Ridiculous Texts

I have weird friends. Weird friends who like to text me weird stuff. But their weirdness is hilarious, so I try my best to accept them for who they are. See why:

Why The Secret Life Sucks

Hope yall are ready for a rant. Everyone knows I'm a sucker for cheesy (and trashy) TV, but something really rubbed me the wrong way last night, and it has to do with the ABC Family TV show, The Secret Life of The American Teenager.

It all started yesterday when I was watching Maury (told you, I love trashy TV). This lady was on there trying to stop her 15 year old from having a baby. Evidently, the mom came home from work one day to her daughter having sex with some random man; the daughter then confessed with sleeping around with over 20 men because she wanted a baby that badly. What the hell!? What is wrong with kids nowadays? When I was 15, I spent every moment thinking about Myspace, the newest A&F clothes, and getting my braces off. I didn't even think about sex, much less being a mother.

Later that night, my roommate was watching The Secret Life, so I decided to tune in with her. I've watched The Secret Life for a few years, intermittently, and have always thought it was ridiculously cheesy, but this past season has really just gone overboard.

Let me give you a little synopsis of the show:

The show revolves around a 15 year old freshman, Amy Juergens. Amy and Ricky Underwood had sex at band camp, and she winds up pregnant. Ricky wants nothing to do with her and starts dating a sex-obsessed girl named Adrian. Amy then starts dating Ben Boykewich (also 15), who winds up proposing to her while she is pregnant. Ben wants to take over the father role the baby needed, since Ricky is out of the picture. As the show progresses, many of the main characters (Grace, Jack, Ashley, Alice, Henry, etc.) find out what sex is and become obsessed with it. Almost all of the characters use the term "love" very loosely and find themselves broken hearted or in a sticky situation. Infidelity becomes a huge platform for most of these relationships, and because of that a pregnancy, a marriage, ultimately a divorce between Ben and Adrian (juicy, I know) surfaces. Eventually, Amy and Ricky work things out and decide to get married... and that's where we are now.

If you didn't gather how much the show sucks from above, here are some of the main reasons as to why the show irritates the crap out of me:

1. The show instills unwholesome morals in its viewers
Like I mentioned earlier, when I was 15, I wasn't thinking about having sex. The target audience for this show is young girls, aged 12-18; clearly not the demographic that needs to be taught that casual sex is okay. I really don't think it's alright for girls that young to be misled into thinking that sex will get you a boyfriend, help you become more popular, or make you feel better about yourself. Also, getting married in high school is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of. Marriage should happen when a couple is mature enough to take their relationship to the next level, not because of a pregnancy.

2. The characters are "in love" within days of dating
I'm sorry, but what kind of expectations is this going to give teenage girls? That boys are supposed to throw out the L word seconds after becoming boyfriend and girlfriend? That's not how life works out. I know, I know... when I was a teenager I swore up and down that I was "in love" with my boyfriend, but boy was I wrong. Love takes time and I think it's beyond stupid to set up a plot about teenagers falling in love, when in reality, all they're doing is having sex. Love and sex are not synonymous for teenagers.

3. Parents seem to have no authority on this show
I see the characters disrespect their parents in such absurd ways. This sets forth ideas into young girls heads that it's ok to sneak behind your parents backs, lie to them, and throw away any kind of morals they've ever taught you. I mean, for God's sake, Amy's parents let her 14 year-old little sister take a semester off of school to drive across the country with a boy she barely knew. Wtf, who does that? Also, what parent is okay with their 17 year old openly talking about sex? I know mine weren't--and still aren't.

4. Oh, and the acting is terrible.

This seems a little crazy for me to devote an entire blog post to how ridiculous a TV show is, but it genuinely makes me mad. Millions of little girls watch this show every Monday night and can't help but take away ideas from it, whether they intend to or not. The show encourages salacious behavior. I'm sure ABC Family believes that it's better to educate viewers about sex instead of assuming they just don't do it, but they're not realizing the impact they have on viewers. High school is portrayed in such harebrained way on this show; believe it or not, teenagers have more to worry about than sex and relationships.

If I could rewrite the show, I would make it more like 7th Heaven. The Camden kids actually got in trouble for things, sex wasn't really talked about and when it happened, it was shed in a light that made it look bad (sensible, right?), and the takeaway from the show was that family comes first.

End of rant.

Can I Get An Amen?

This could not be more perfect for today. I hate that I'm not good at standing up for myself.

Friday, July 27, 2012

I feel like this week flew by! I haven't been up to much though. Hung out with my mom and the cousin on Monday. Headed back to Austin Tuesday. Dropped Kacy off at the airport, had a job interview, and an EEG on Wednesday. Yesterday I had my MRI, dinner with Alexa, and watched Ben Baxter Band and Drew Fish Band play at Blind Pig. Today I've watched a lot of Workaholics (freakin hilarious, where has this been all my life?) and made breakfast. Borrrrring. But I'm soaking up these lazy summer days before school and my internship take over my life again in a few short weeks :(

For your viewing pleasure, here's some Instagram worthy things from my week:

Cute, I know. I was bored in traffic on our way to see the Titanic exhibit on Monday. It was really cool! Next time you're in Houston and are in the museum district, I'd really suggest going.

View of Austin from South Congress. SoCo is known as the weird part of Austin (some would say the whole city is weird, but whatevs). There's a lot of really cool restaurants and eclectic shops down there.

No caption necessary.

Papasitos is hands-down my favorite Mexican restaurant in the world. They have the best chips and salsa EVER. And the marg isn't too shabby ;)

Stormy weather in Houston. Boo.

We went to the beach on Sunday. I felt bad for the fam because I was a little sicky and irritable all day :(

*Funny story to accompany this day: Like I stated earlier, I wasn't feeling too hot. Nonetheless, Mom suggested we go to the Kemah Boardwalk. I swear to yall it was a White Trash Convention. I've never seen more nasties (men with pony-tails, calf tattoos, drunks) in my whole life.  So here I am sweating to death with a pounding headache, when Mom suggests we go on the "party boat." I'm not gonna make everyone revolve their day around me not feeling good, so I sucked it up and got on the boat anyways. I decided to sit on the ledge, ya know.. just in case. They said if you sit in the front you won't get wet, so that's where I sat. Only one person on the boat got soaked... guess who it was? I was so mad. Oh and I forgot to mention... they played "Who Let The Dog's Out" on repeat. Torture, I tell ya.

Last, but certainly not least, here's a pic of me and my beautiful Mama. I just love her so much! It was nice to hang out at home for a few days. Nothin makes you feel better than snugglin' up to your mom when you're feelin' down... doesn't matter your age!

Carry On Essentials

Summertime is a big time for travel, so I've compiled my list of carry on essentials, links included. Airports can be really expensive (not to mention you may not have time to shop!), so it's best to be prepared before your flight!

1. Tory Burch tote--I love Tory Burch and this adorable tote can double as a beach bag! It's big enough to fit everything you need and it includes pockets on the inside to store important papers, passports, and IDs.
2. Naked Smoothie juice--I'm still annoyed that you don't get snacks on planes anymore, so I always make sure I have one of these smoothies on me before I board a flight. They're so tasty and soo filling--it's like a meal in itself! Most Starbucks carry them.
3. Lululemon In-Stride Jacket--Everyone knows how freezing planes can get and this lightweight jacket can give you the extra warmth you need while flying. They come in tons of cute colors and can easily fit in that cute Tory Burch tote ;)
4. Magazines are a must. For a short duration of the flight, you're not allowed to turn on your Kindle or iPod so having a good magazine can cure that boredom you will probably have. I, for one, absolutely cannot sleep on planes so it's nice to have something to entertain me.
5. Headphones--I cannot stress enough how important having headphones is. It's always my luck that I'm sat next to a baby on a plane, so thank God I can plug in my iPod and drown out the crying.
6. Gum--My ears pop an ungodly amount of times while flying, but I've found that chewing gum drastically helps that!
7. Snacks--like I mentioned before, most airlines don't give out snacks anymore so it's important to bring something to munch on during your flight. I'm a huge fan of Pirate's Booty; it's yummy and it's organic! Win win!
8. Travel sized lotion--skin can get dry in high altitudes, so I like to carry a travel-sized bottle (Victoria's Secret has a lot of great scents in tiny bottles) just in case.
9. Make-up--Props to you if you can fall asleep while flying. When you wake up, you might want to freshen up your face with some compact, travel sized makeup. Fortunately for you, Josie Maran has a Made With Love makeup kit for Sephora that has all of the necessities, including eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, blush, argon oil, and lip-gloss all for a cheap $46. This way, you won't have to drag out your whole makeup bag just to freshen up.

Happy traveling this summer, yall!

Happy Thursday

A few things for today:

1. I only have one more finance quiz before that god-awful class is over for the summer! I am shaking I'm so excited about it. I've loved all of my business classes, except for this one. It was all online and as it turns out, finance has a lot to do with math. Math isn't my fave and neither is learning through videos (opposed to face to face). Prayers for a good grade on my final are MUCH appreciated!

2. I've been really obsessed with a band called Nelo (www.nelomusic.com) this summer. They're a Texas band and are a mix between country/rock/indie. They're constantly playing on repeat in my car and apartment. I about died when I found out they're playing at ACL Live in August with Pat Green (another awesome Texas singer). I'll definitely be going!

3. We're starting to dig deeper into my little seizure predicament. I had an EEG (measures my brain activity) yesterday and it was really awkward. The EEG tech was super nice, but he was just a little awkward to talk with. He kept telling me people from East Texas were yay-hoos (opposed to yaw-hoos). Then I had to fall asleep for 10 minutes... that was a bit of a challenge with a strange man watching me sleep. Nonetheless, I came, I saw, and I conquered. Today, I have to go get an MRI on my brain. So hopefully in a few days my neurologist will call me with results and we'll know where to go from here.

4. I started watching Friends from the very beginning. I'm not really sure where this show has been my whole life, but I'm pissed that I've missed out for such a long time! It's so funny!

5. I realllllllly need to do laundry. I was out of clean towels last night when I went to take a shower, so I grabbed a dirty one from the hamper (gross, I know). What I didn't realize was that was the same towel my friend Adam had used to clean up his nosebleed the other night.. Naturally, I didn't notice until I started drying off. Can you say ew?

That's about all of the fun and excitement going on in my life this week. Kacy headed back to Nashville yesterday. I'll miss her, but I'm sure she was ready to get back home and see her friends.

Until tomorrow, XO.

I'm super excited to announce that I am a contributing writer for a blog called LoveTwenty.com. It's such a cool blog for girls my age. There are articles offering opinions, advice, and other tidbits of topics like careers, college, love/sex, and more!

So here is a link to my verrrry first article: http://www.lovetwenty.com/2012/07/why-some-girls-keep-going-back-to-boys-who-hurt-them/

I decided to write about why girls keep going back to the boys that hurt them. I've dealt with this happening to so many friends and I wanted to share my opinion on it.

Be The Person Your Dog Thinks You Are

There's nothing better than seeing the sheer excitement a dog shows when you come through the door. My dogs freak the F out when I come home after not seeing them for weeks and I absolutely love it.

*disclaimer: the dogs I'm referring to are the dogs at my parents house. I don't leave my dogs home, unattended, while I'm away for weeks.

Ps. If you haven't read The Art of Racing in the Rain, you need to. I cried on every other page. It's from a dog's viewpoint and it is so beautiful to see the relationship a dog has with his owner. Loveee it.

Eek! My very first Instafriday! I know you're just dyiiiiing to know about my week through the lens of my iPhone. Here ya go!

Saw this on Pinterest and loved it. It's the new background on my lock screen.

Me and the roommate/BFF out to dinner. Isn't she so nice? We originally thought we were going to Carrabba's, but apparently the only Carrabba's in Austin has been replaced by a restaurant called Verona (http://www.veronaustin.com/). We gave it a shot and it was deeeeelish!

My little younger cousin, Kacy is in town, so I took her up to Mt. Bonnell to get a gorg view of the city and lake. She loves Texas, so I volunteered my apartment to her for a few days so she could get the "college experience." Too bad for her I've been a grandma lately and go to bed at 10pm. Oops :(

Who doesn't love frozen yogurt?

Cold pizza for breakfast? Yep. My fave.

2. Living a healthy lifestyle and taking care of yourself.

One Day

One day you’ll meet a guy. And ultimately, he’s going to find out how you chew, how you sip, how you dance, how you smell at every point in the day. The fact that most of your friends are shallow. How your face looks underneath all your makeup. How you love chocolate, how you can be hyper at times, how certain games and shows make you really happy. How cranky you can get when you’re tired, how you think you look bad in all your Facebook photos. He’s going to know everything about you. And you know what? He’s still going to love you.

Summer Essentials

1. I'm obsessed with this Banana Boat spray on sunscreen. First of all, I'm white as a ghost, so unless I wanna get burnt to a crisp, this stuff is a necessity. Plus, I get reallllly sweaty when I lay out (sick, I know) and this stuff really stays on for hours. And your hands don't get all greasy because you don't have to rub it in! Win win situation.
2. Love these square-frame sunglasses from Forever 21. If you're like me, you go through sunglasses quick. Mine always wind up breaking or I lose them or the plastic starts peeling off or whatever. These are cheap ($5.80, heck yeah!) and pretty durable.
3. These headbands from F21 are an absolute essential if you're doing anything outside this summer. They're super cute, plus they get your hair out of your face. I especially like wearing these to the pool. No one looks cute with a bangs tanline.
4. Watermelon. Oh my god. I'm literally obsessed with watermelon in the summer. It's so refreshing!
5. I seriously swear by this makeup. Clinique's Stay-Matte Oil Free Foundation is honestly a Texan girl's dream come true. Even on the most hot and humid day, this makeup stays put and your face looks flawless. You barely even glitter (aka a pretty word for sweat) while wearing it. I'm in loveeeeeee.
6. Essie's Mojito Madness is such a fun color for the summer. When else can you pull off vibrant shades like this?
7. If you're looking for a delicious summer cocktail, UV's Coconut Vodka needs to be your next go-to liquor. I don't particularly like rum and when I heard the news of a coconut flavored vodka existing, my heart skipped a beat. I like to mix this with soda water or Sprite for a refreshing drink by the pool. Bonus points if you blend it with coconut milk and ice for a pina colada!
8. Kelly and Katie Iris sandals are so fun! They go with almost any outfit and can be dressed up or dressed down. I love any kind of summer sandals and all the cute ways they can be worn. So much more interesting than a boring ole flip flop.
9. Tervis Tumblers are life-savers. They don't sweat! How great of an invention is that?! I can go to sleep at night with an ice-water and wake up the next morning with ice still in my Tervis. Love love love it. They're perfect for the beach or the pool, plus they come in the cutest designs! I'm diggin the moustache one :)

So there ya have it... a few of my summer faves. Enjoy!

Good Day To Have A Good Day

I agree.

and that's sayin' a lot.

A Longhorn Gameday

A few days ago, I purchased my 2012 Texas Longhorn Football Season Tickets! I've anticipated this season to be the best one yet, mainly because it's my senior year and if it's not the best yet, I'll throw a fit. I know I probably come off as a sports guru, but let's get real... football is not my forte. I pretty much know nothing about the sport. I know our QB and receiver are the younger brother duo to the infamous Shipley-McCoy duo we had the privilege of knowing throughout 2007-2009, so they're bound to be somethin good. My stepdad tells me all the time about how this incoming freshman class has a lot to offer, so we'll see.

But really, the game itself isn't really what makes football season so great. It makes it good, don't get me wrong, but I'm much more interested in the tailgating, gameday outfits, and school spirit than anything. There's honestly nothing better than a game day in Austin, TX.

Let me paint a picture for you: it's 120 degrees outside, naturally, because it's Fall in Texas. You have on a gorgeous gameday dress with a pair of boots (no other shoe can be substituted, unless you're a freshman and haven't learned of the boot concept yet). Your hair is probably curled because you know if you wear it straight, it'll get sweaty and gross. Once you print your tickets and get together with your girls, you hit up all the best tailgates. For college kids, the best tailgates are either behind the stadium or on the MLK/Congress block. The Bob Bullock parking lot is one giant party, with lots of beer, lots of BBQ, and lots of burnt orange. And since it is 120 degrees, you'll need to consume several beers just to cool down. The atmosphere is incredible... country music is blaring, someone, somewhere is chanting "TEXAS" "FIGHT", and there are PLENTY of gorgeous Texas boys in Wranglers and boots. Mmmm gets me happy just thinkin' about it! After spending a couple of hours with your best friends and the best lookin' boys in the country, you're ready to head to the stadium. DKR stadium is like no other stadium. It's the biggest stadium in Texas and the 6th largest in the NCAA.

Even half a mile from the stadium, you can hear the band. Once inside, don't even think about sitting down till at least halftime. As soon as Texas Fight begins and the Longhorns charge the field, the energy in the stadium skyrockets. It's a feeling you just have to experience, because there's no way I can describe it. And when we win and The Eyes of Texas starts to play.. oh my god. Be still, my heart.

So... obviously you can see why I'm excited for this season. I'm already planning outfits. I'm sitting with my best friends andddddd we're going to have incredible seats, since we're all seniors. I can't even wait.

Let me tell you bout my besssst friend(s)

I have truly been blessed to know some of the greatest people in the world. No matter what goes wrong (or right even!), my best friends have always remained a constant in my life, whether it was as a shoulder to cry on, an ear to gossip to, or a someone to help me celebrate something big. I've never worried about a struggling friendship. The best friends I have, have always been my best friends and I know they'll stick around for a verrrrry long time.

Each and every one of them deserves to be bragged about. Time to show you some of the most wonderful people you will ever have the privilege of knowing :) My life would be absolutely horrible without them.

Kay is my first and very best friend. Andddd she's my cousin, but whose counting? She knows just about everything about me and vice versa. One time I convinced her it was ok to poop on the living room floor. We've spent countless hours watching Rugrats, playing Barbies, and running around barefoot till our feet turned black. And before you knew it, we were grown up and all we could think about was boys, driving around at night, and staying up late. Kayla has been through her fair share of crappy events in life and has came out to be one of the strongest, most fearless people I know. And now she's somebody's wife! I just love her so much. Thank you for not only always being my little baby Kayler, but always such a rock in my life. God made us cousins because he knew the world couldn't handle us as sisters!

Courtney and I met in the 5th grade and she was totally the most popular girl on the cheerleading squad. We became good friends in 8th grade and have been stuck like glue since. Courtney genuinely has a heart of gold and will do anything for anybody, at the drop of a hat. She's so independent and has such strong faith even when things seem to be at their breaking point. She's most definitely my partner in crime! Literally ;)

This is kind of weird, but Chris was the first boy I ever said "I love you" to. He was also my first serious, serious boyfriend. And then he came out of the closet and broke my heart. That's ok. I'm over it and I still love him so much... just in a different way. Our friendship has gone through so much and we've really matured together. We have the exact same sense of humor and I always have an absolute blast when I'm with him. I can always count on Chris to make me feel better, even when it's something I don't want to hear. He is so talented and I know he will only excel in everything he does in the future.

Mandy and I met in 6th grade and she was brannnnd new to public school, so I did my best to show her the ropes. I secretly hate Mandy for two reasons: 1. She never went through an awkward, ugly duckling middle school stage. She's always been a hottie. and 2. She doesn't sweat. What a freak! Just kidding :) We have definitely had our ups and downs, but have always stuck by each others side. She is so beautiful inside and out and always manages to see the bright side of things. We've been through entirely TOO much boy drama together.. and I must say, we have seem to sort out the duds thus far. Annnnd she is absolutely, hands down my favorite person to gossip with. She is such a deserving person and I hope she gets everything she wishes for in life and more!

Anna is definitely my newest friend out of the bunch, but I swear I have known her my whole life. I feel like we're soul-mate best friends. I've actually never told her that, so Anna, if you're reading this.. congratulations? She is hilarious, easy to talk to, and probably the nicest person in the world. She is the kind of friend everyone should have because she genuinely gives a shit about how her actions might affect others (that's weird, right?). She has great taste in music and offers to drive more often than not, and in my book that makes her a keeper. Also, I can tell her absolutely anything and I know she'll never ever judge me for it. Isn't that what really makes a great best friend?

This crazy girl was one of my very first friends in college. I used to think she was kind of a dweeb, but I got over that reallll quick when I realized, like me, she has no shame. I mean good grief, we went out in public in footie pajamas together. I know she's my roommate and we're sort of forced to be BFF's, but I think I'd love her all the same if we weren't living together. She has such a big heart and will go out of her way just to cheer a friend up. She's probably the funniest person I have ever met. Literally, we can keep ourselves entertained for hours on end. She's just such a great person. I can't even explain her personality to you--but I promise, you'd just have to meet her once to get it.

Last, but certainly not least, is Smels. In all of my friendships, my friendship with Kelsey has never, ever changed. With some friends, we've faded in and out but still remained friends... but not with Kelsey. We've literally been inseparable since 7th grade. She knows absolutely everything about me and same with her. We've physically and mentally grown up together. She can read me like the back of a book and I can her. She is so funny and has such a big heart. Honestly, if I tried to count all of our inside jokes, it would take me days. Though I miss her so much (because we don't live in the same city), our friendship stays the same. I know things will always pick up right where they left off.

My life is 100 times better because of you all. I know I suck and don't tell yall how much you mean to me very often, but always know how much I love each and every one of you and how you've impacted my life. Yall are the loves of my life!

Messina Hof

What a fun weekend! Actually, I've been having the best week ever. No summer school, no job, and lots of fun! This Saturday I went and visited one of my oldest friends (we realized we have officially been best friends for TEN YEARS! What?!) in College Station. Outside of CS, there's a town called Bryan. I like to refer to Bryan as hell on Earth, but for reasons I don't feel like divulging. Anyways, in Bryan there's a winery called Messina Hof so we decided to go on a tour and tasting!

I am a wine-o, so I thought it was super interesting learning about the different types of grapes and how they ferment them and all that jazz. After the tour, we got to taste 4 different wines. A Chardonnay, a Zinfandel, a Rose, and a Reisling. Reisling wasn't my fave, but that's ok. And we learned some pretty sweet techniques on how to change the taste of the wine by oxidating it with your mouth. It's chemistry, yall!

Hope your weekend was as relaxing as mine!

Fresh Strawberry Lemonade

I've been really bored this summer, so I've really honed in on my homemade food making skillz. Today's beverage of choice is strawberry lemonade. I've had a weird craving for lemonade these past few weeks, but Country Time makes my throat feel weird (plus it just doesn't taste fresh), so I was forced to find an alternative.

Thanks to Janet over at Simply So Good, I now have the most delish homemade lemonade recipe out there. I constantly have a quart jar of it in my fridge, and today I decided to switch things up a bit.

Fresh-Squeezed Strawberry Lemonade (adapted from Simply So Good)

  • 1 1/2 cups of sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups of water
  • 1 1/2 cups of fresh squeezed lemon juice (no seeds)
  • Cold water
  • Ice
  • 8-10 strawberries

  • Heat water and sugar in a sauce pain until sugar dissolves and the simple syrup you just made boils. Remove from heat and set aside.
  • Add lemon juice to syrup. Put in quart jar and let cool.
  • Using an immersion blender, blend strawberries together until they are of a liquid consistency. Add to lemonade syrup and stir.
  • When ready to drink, add 1/4 cup of mixture to 3/4 cup of water and serve over ice.

Now if you make this recipe and decide to forego the strawberries, the lemonade syrup will keep for 2-3 weeks in the fridge. When making with strawberries, this mixture will keep no later then 3-4 days, so you may want to add strawberry puree into individual glasses if you are not going to use up your mixture in those few days.

We'll Stick a Boot in Your Ass, It's the American Way

I don't really have big plans this 4th. Just hanging out with my bestie, Anna and maybe floating the river if we can get out of bed at a reasonable hour. Blistering in the sun with your closest friends, with your ass in a float and an ice cold domestic beer is in your hand is really the AMERICAN WAY!

No but on a serious note, we should really sit and think about how grateful we should be to live in a such a great country. America really is the land of the free. We can sit and criticize Obama's new health care plan or how many trillions of dollars of debt we're in or how many liberals there are lurking the streets of Austin, but ultimately we live in a damn great country. We have access to literally anything we could ever want, we can speak our minds, practice whatever religion we want without getting in (legal) trouble for it, access whatever Internet site we need/want, etc.

I don't need to go further. Things could always, always, always, be a lot worse. We could work our butts off for minimum wage. We could live in poverty because there aren't jobs available for us. We could have no access to health care. We might have to give up our newborn child because there are too many in our country. We could have no access to something as miniscule (to us at least) as CLEAN WATER. So next time you're complaining about Obama's next scheme, think about how much worse it could be.

On that note, happy 4th everyone! Have fun and BE SAFE! Make a virtual promise to me that you won't drink and drive!

Kayla's Wedding--Rustic Chic

One of my favorite people in the world, my cousin Kayla got married in May. She's two years younger than me, and growing up we've always been like sisters. We have such a special bond, and it was so great being her Maid of Honor. We've always talked about how our future weddings would be, who we would marry, etc., and now all of that unfolded!

She chose Bottom View Farm for her venue. The wedding and reception both took place inside the barn on the property. Surrounding the farm were little houses and shops, set up to resemble an old town. It turned out perfect for photos. The bridal party was made up of 10 people, plus a bible bearer, and two flower girls. One of my favorite parts of the wedding was her having her little brother, Blake, walk her down the aisle.

The decorations she chose went with a Rustic Chic theme. Cute mason jars filled with Baby's Breath, lots of pallet art, string lights, and other fun odds and ends. All of the bridesmaids wore boots with our dresses and the guys had boutonnieres made of wheat. And instead of a traditional meal during the reception, they had a yummy dessert bar, catered by Trey's grandparents. It was such a gorgeous wedding!

Enjoy the pics :)

Bridesmaids being silly!

Trey and his mom. So adorb!

Zippin her up!

This was Kay's "Something Blue". They pinned this inside her dress.

Her "Something Old" was a penny that she put in her boot from the year she was born.

Kayla and her mama! Love them.

This is her precious little brother, Blake. He was so mature and so proud to give his sister away!

Praying with the groom.

Praying with the bride. Additionally, all of the bridesmaids went around and said a prayer for the couple. Right after, we had to rush to fix our makeup because we had all been crying lol.

Us with our precious grandma. She looked so beautiful!

Dawson (the Bible bearer) and his girlfriend! He was so sad to see her get married.

It was super hot out so we made the programs into fans! Taking a bit of a fun, non-traditional approach, everyone threw black eyed peas for good luck at the end of the reception!

These programs came out adorably! I made them all, and if you are interested in me making you a similar design for your wedding, please email me or shoot me a message on my Etsy shop!

Here comes the Bride :)

Giving her away

They toasted with Coke! What a fun idea!

Kay, I can't believe you are someone's wife now! You have such a great head on your shoulders and you are wise beyond your years. You are going to be a fantastic wife and mommy to all your future babies. I know this because ever since we were little and we played house, I always had to be the Dad because you just HADDDD to be the mom! You've been practicing since day one ;) I'm so happy that you are going to live happily ever after. I love you so much Kayler!

Trey, I hope you know what you're getting yourself into! Haha, just kidding! Welcome to this crazy family. Thank you for making my little baby Kay the happiest she's ever been. I couldn't have picked anyone better for her. Love you!

I couldn't be happier for them. Kayla is so deserving of such a great love, especially from someone like Trey. I wish them so many years of wedding bliss. Enjoy the beginning of yall's marriage, then get on to makin' me some precious nieces and nephews!
